MOORE TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Salem Community College Director of Athletics and Student Leadership, Karen Freed, has been elected Assistant Women's Region Director by the Region XIX membership.

Freed joins Women's Director Ron Case (Gloucester), Men's Director John Kuntz (Sussex), Men's Assistant Director Jack Sullivan (Morris), Compliance Director John Simone (Mercer) and Assistant Compliance Director Troy Tucker (Northampton) on the Region XIX Executive Committee.

Freed, who joined the Salem staff in 2009, currently chairs the Region XIX Soccer committee and is a member of the Standards & Ethics committee.

Freed came to SCC after a four-year stint as the Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator at NCAA Division II Molloy College in Rockville Centre, N.Y. 

Prior to Molloy, she served as the Athletic Marketing Graduate Assistant at NCAA Division I Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss., and interned with the local Kansas City Royals affiliate, Wilmington Blue Rocks.

Freed graduated from Mississippi State University in December 2002 with a master's degree in sport administration.  She also holds a bachelor's degree in sports communication and a certificate from the NACWAA/HERS Institute for Administrative Advancement.  She is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators.

A native of Salem County, Freed lives in Pennsville with her husband, Mark, and son, Landon.
