Garden State Athletic Conference - Wrestling


Section I - Regular Season Matches
A.) In order for an institution to be eligible for the GSAC Championship, it must wrestle all other GSAC opponents.
B.) If a team cannot wrestle five (5) weight classes in a match, it must notify its opponent at the earliest possible time and forfeit the match. If the inability to field five (5) weight classes is discovered at weigh- in, the opponent must be notified as soon as weigh-ins are concluded. If the coaches mutually agree, they may wrestle the match with the available, eligible personnel.
C.) In the event of a triangular match that involves a non- GSAC college, the GSAC colleges must wrestle first.
D.) The home team sets the pairings when three (3) or more conference teams are participating.
E.) A team that arrives 15 minutes prior to the contracted starting time or within 30 minutes after that time will be allowed 30 minutes to dress, get taped, be inspected by official, and warm-up. The contest will begin exactly 30 minutes after arrival of the tardy team.


Section II - Rules
A.) NCAA rules will apply to all facets of wrestling programs.


Section III - Awards
A.) The GSAC conference team champion will receive a championship plaque.
B.) The GSAC championship shall be determined by the best won- loss record in single, round robin competition against member institutions.
C.) In the event of a tie, champions will be declared.
D.) An All-Conference team will be selected annually by the GSAC coaches at the NJCAA Mid-Atlantic District Tournament. Athletes must have wrestled against at least two GSAC opponents to be considered for the team.
E.) The team will be selected using the following criteria based upon GSAC matches:
1. Dual meet record in weight class.
2. Head-to-head competition.
3. Most falls.
4. Most five (5) point decisions.
5. Most four (4) point decisions.
6. Least number of forfeits won.

The following guidelines should be used by the coaches in determining the All-Conference team:
1. A wrestler must have competed in a given weight class in at least 50 percent of the GSAC matches during the season.
2. Should a team drop its schedule prior to its first published date, no forfeits will be granted. Should a team start its published schedule and later drop its program, all teams they would have met shall receive a forfeit. In order for an individual wrestler to receive a forfeit win, he must have wrestled at the weight class in question in the match immediately preceding the forfeiture.

F.) Members of the All-Conference team and their institutions will receive the appropriate certificates.
G.) The coach of the college winning the GSAC championship shall be named the conference’s Coach of the Year. The Assistant Coaches of the winning team will be named GSAC Coaching Staff of the Year.


Section IV - Ejection
A.) Any player or coach ejected from an intercollegiate contest will not participate in that institutions next contest as shown on the published schedule of that institution.
B.) If the ejection occurs in the last game in a given year, the suspension will carry-over to the first contest of the next season.
C.) If a coach is ejected from a contest involving any member of the Region and there is no Board of Trustees Assistant present at the contest, the game is terminated at that point and forfeited to the opponent.


Section V - FIGHTING STATEMENT
An athlete in any contest involving a GSAC College who is ejected for violent conduct or fighting shall not be allowed to participate in the next two contests as determined by the schedule of that institution. If the ejection occurs in the last contest(s) of a given season, the suspension shall be in effect for the first and/or second regular season contests of the player’s next season.
