[Men's Basketball] Essex Men's Basketball Set to Open Play in NJCAA DII Tournament

DANVILLE, IL - The Essex County College men's basketball team will open play in the 2013 NJCAA Division II basketball tournament on Tuesday March 19th when they face 6th seeded Brown Mackie College (KS) at 1pm.

Essex (25-6) captured the Region XIX championship with a victory over Mercer County Community College on March 2nd.

[Men's Basketball] Brookdale Men Win Division III National Championship

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY - Brookdale Community College (N.J.) won their first DIII men's basketball national championship Saturday with a 61-55 win over Eastfield College (Texas). The Jersey Blues became the first New Jersey school to win the DIII men's title since 1994.

Freshman forward Joe Nickerson (right, #30) led the way for Brookdale, scoring a game-high 21 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field and added seven rebounds and two steals to the effort. Jersey Blues freshman guard David Rosado contributed 15 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore guard Amir Gilliam dished out a game-high 10 assists.

Trailing 44-43 with under eight minutes remaining, Nickerson and Rosado led the Jersey Blues on a 15-5 run to take a 58-49 lead with 3:33 to play. The Harvesters cut the deficit to five with 1:33 left but Brookdale's defense tightened up down the stretch to hold on for the 61-55 victory.

Nickerson was named Tournament MVP after putting up double-figures in scoring for all three of Brookdale's games. For the tournament, Nickerson averaged 16.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

Brookdale's victory in the championship improved their final record to 33-1 and capped off their 2012-13 campaign with a five-game win streak. Eastfield's loss dropped their record to 29-5 for the season.

[Men's Basketball] Ocean Women and Brookdale Men Set to Open National Play

MOORE TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Ocean County College women's basketball team and the Brookdale men's basketball team will open play today in their respective NJCAA National Tournaments.

Ocean County captured the Division III Region XIX championship with a victory over Cumberland County College in the title game. Ocean, seeded 8th, will face defending national champion Rock Valley College on Thursday at 1pm in Rochester, Minnesota.

Brookdale won their second consecutive Region XIX Division III title, defeating Northampton in the title game on March 2nd. The Jersey Blues, ranked #1 in the country, will face Rochester Technical College at 5pm Thursday at Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake, NY.

[Men's Basketball] Men's Division III Final Four Set

LINCROFT, NJ - The Region XIX men's Division III semi-finals are set, as Brookdale, Northampton, Camden and Union each advanced to the Final Four with quarterfinal victories on Monday night.

Brookdale, the #1 seed from the GSAC, downed the #5 seed from the EPAC, Lehigh Carbon Community College, 106-53.

Camden, the 3rd seed from the GSAC upset the EPAC's #2 seed, Delaware County Community College, 74-66, to advance to the semi-finals where they will meet Brookdale.

On the other side of the bracket, the #1 seed from the EPAC, Northampton Community College, downed Bergen (#4 GSAC), 97-86, while Union County College (#2 GSAC) defeated Montgomery County Community College (#3 EPAC), 83-64.

Northampton and Union will meet in the other semi-final on Thursday February 28th at Brookdale.

[Men's Basketball] Northampton Men's and Women's Basketball Capture EPAC Titles

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Community College men's and women's basketball teams captured their respective Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) championships on Tuesday night as the women downed Bucks County Community College, 104-35, to finish with a perfect 10-0 conference record, while the men topped Bucks 93-60 to finish with a 13-1 conference mark.

"It's always rewarding to capture a conference title," remarked Northampton men's basketball coach Kevin Foley, "but there is something even more special about winning the inaugural championship."

The Northampton men and women also completed undefeated seasons at home, with both teams finishing with 12-0 marks at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center.

The women's game is scheduled for 6 p.m, while the men's contest will tip-off around 8 p.m. This doubleheader will be played at Lackawanna's Student Union.

MEDIA, Pa -Delaware County Community College men's basketball player Tayqwane Wallace has been named Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office this morning.

Wallace, a freshman forward from Wilmington De., averaged 25.5 points, 7 rebounds, 2.5 assist and 2.5 steals in two games last week.

MEDIA, Pa -Delaware County Community College Men's basketball player James Middleton has been named Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office this morning.

Middleton, a freshmen guard from Easton, Pa. led his team to two conference victories last week putting the Phantoms in first place in the conference. He scored a career high 27 points in a victory over Montgomery County on 12/11/12. For the week James averaged 21 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

VINELAND, NJ - Armin Cane of Atlantic Cape scored his 1,000th point on Thursday, December 13th as he led the Buccaneers to a 103-79 victory over the Cumberland County College Dukes. Cane hit a 3-pointer early in the 2nd half to pass the milestone en route to scoring 35 points on the night.

MEDIA, Pa -Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology men's basketball player Kenneth Randall has been named Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office this morning.

Randall, a sophomore guard from Lancaster, Pa. put up a career high 50 points in a win vs. conference foe Harrisburg Area Community College on November 13th. In two games during the week Randall totaled 71 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals.

MEDIA, Pa - Lehigh Carbon Community College's men's basketball player Frank Dejesus has been named Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office this afternoon.

Dejesus a freshmen guard from Allentown, put up a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds in LCCC's opening game of the season on November 3rd against Onondaga Community College (Syracuse, NY).
