[Men's Tennis] Gloucester Wins Men's Tennis National Title

The Gloucester County College Men's Tennis Team made some history this week in Plano, TX at the NJCAA Division III National Championships. The team narrowly defeated tournament favorite Nassau CC by the slimmest of margins to earn their fourth consecutive National Championship. No other NJCAA Division III Men's Tennis Program has accomplished this "Four-Peat". This was the 24^th overall NJCAA National Championship for Gloucester County College.

[Men's Tennis] Bergen Wins Region XIX Men's Tennis Championship

Trenton, N.J. - The Bergen Community College Men's Tennis Program won the 2013 Region XIX Men's Tennis Tournament today hosted by Mercer County Community College at Mercer County Park. The team posted 19 points earning them the championship. Bergen Head Coach Sal Guillen was named Region XIX Coach of the Year.

Gloucester County College also had a strong showing at the tournament and finished with 17 points as the Region XIX Runner-Up. Brookdale Community College finished in 3rd place with 9 points. Mercer and Ocean each earned 7 points and Williamson Trade finished with 1 point.

Congratulations to all teams on an excellent season and best of luck to the Region XIX programs that will represent us in Texas at the NJCAA National Championship!

MOORE TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Gloucester County College, under Head Coach Brian Rowan, continue to set the bar for Region XIX men's tennis, as the Roadrunners sport a perfect 4-0 region record to date.

The Roadrunners (7-2 overall) swept thru the regular season last year, with a perfect 10-0 record and captured the NJCAA Division III national championship.

Gloucester CC in 2^nd at NJCAA Nationals

The GCC Roadrunner Men's Tennis Team is currently in second place heading into the semifinal round of the NJCAA Division III National Tennis Tournament. The Roadrunners trail only Nassau CC who is even with GCC in players still alive in the main draw. GCC will square off with Nassau in two semifinal matches on Wednesday.

Roadrunner #1 singles player AJ Moore started the day strong for GCC winning his match over Kyle Brewster from Suffolk CC and then went on to team with Donovan Vassalotti at #1 doubles in a win over SUNY-Adirondak. Both matches were straight set wins but the competition will get tougher moving forward in the tournament for the returning All-American. Moore will face Onondaga's Ari Smith in his semifinal singles match and then will again team with Vassalotti for a match with Region 19 rival Mercer CC in the doubles semifinal.

Vassalotti won his quarterfinal match when his opponent suffered a severe sprained ankle and had to default. Number four singles player Vladislav Koldomasov and #5 singles Dan Hays were the other singles winners on the day. All three doubles team advanced to the semifinals. TRENTON, NJ - The Region XIX Tennis Committee has released the pairings for the 2012 Region XIX men's tennis tournament. Brackets can be found on www.region19.org under the men's tennis section.

Gloucester enters the tournament with a 10-0 Region record (15-4 overall), while Mercer is 8-2 in the Region (13-4 overall).

PLANO, Texas -- The Gloucester County College (N.J.) Roadrunners men's tennis team captured its second consecutive NJCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship today on the campus of Collin College in Plano, Texas. The Roadrunners won four individual national titles, which lifted their team total to 27 points to give them a them a five point advantage over runner-up Brookdale Community College (N.J.) in the final team standings.

GCC scored wins at #3 singles, #4 singles, #5 singles and #3 doubles today in the championship round. The Roadrunners had already clinched the title on Wednesday and were battling today for individual championships. This is the second consecutive national championship for the men's tennis program at Gloucester. Head coach Brian Rowan was named DIII National Coach of the Year. Assistant coach Scott Henderson was named the ITA Region IV Assistant Coach of the Year.

All four of the GCC sophomores, Ryan Airo, Aaron Hartman, Ed Thompson and Jared Randazzo, earned First-Team NJCAA All-American status. The four sophomores have combined in the last two seasons to dominate Division III tennis. In dual matches they have combined for a 26-5 record, they have won back to back Region 19 Championships and now back to back NJCAA Championships to go with a combined 11 All-American Awards.

Jared Randazzo is now a four-time NJCAA All-American - this season a Second-Team All-American at #6 singles and First-Team All-American at #3 doubles and in 2010 as a First-Team All-American at #5 singles and Second-Team All-American at #2 doubles. Aaron Hartman is now a three-time NJCAA Individaul National Champion - this season winning at #4 singles and #3 doubles and in 2010 winning at #4 singles also. Both of these are records for Gloucester CC players.

The Roadrunners dominated the tournament in Plano this year but fellow Region 19 teams also had great tournaments. Brookdale finished as the runner-up for the second season in a row and Mercer County Community College (N.J.) finished third overall. Brookdale's Tom Wolski, a 2010 All-American, won the individual singles championship with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Gloucester's AJ Moore. Wolski teamed with partner Rich Fitzsimmons to also win the top doubles championship match over the duo from Nassau Community College (N.J.). The Jersey Blues went on to win four individual championships on the final day of competition. Mercer CC went on to finish third in the tournament wrapping up the sweep of the top three spots for Region 19.

[Men's Tennis] Region XIX Atop Leaderboard at Men's Tennis Nationals

PLANO, Tx. - The Gloucester County College Men's Tennis Team made their big move today in Plano, TX and put themselves within one win of repeating as Division III National Champions.

The Roadrunners sophomore singles players Ryan Airo, Aaron Hartman, Ed Thompson, and Jared Randazzo (known as the Four Aces) all received byes on Monday's first day of play but came out firing today and scored major team points to help move GCC from second place into a solid first place in the tournament. Randazzo got the first points of the day with his 6-2, 6-0 victory over Onondaga CC's Mason Padron. Airo and Hartman quickly followed suit and then Thompson also powered through his match. At the same time GCC's freshman #1 singles player AJ Moore was scoring his second singles win of the tournament with a win over Mercer CC's Ben Pinter.

The Roadrunners singles dominance over the last two seasons has helped them achieve most of their success. Last year GCC was in the championship round in four singles flights and this season GCC will be represented in five of the finals matches on Thursday morning at Collin College.

A pair of Region 19 teams also battled to move into top spots today. Brookdale CC, the Region 19 Runner-Ups and also last years National Runner-Ups behind Gloucester CC, are poised to challenge Gloucester again or finish second. Their top two players, Tom Wolski and Rich Fitzsimmons, both won their singles matches and also teamed up to win their doubles match. Brookdale is currently tied with 16 points in second place with Mercer CC, also from Region 19. Brookdale has more chances to earn points left in the last two days of play than Mercer but it will be close.

On Wednesday all of the consolation round matches will be played and the Championship Round matches will be played Thurday at Collin College. Any one win by Gloucester CC or loss by Brookdale CC would clinch GCC at least a share of the championship.

[Men's Tennis] Region XIX Leads Way at Men's Tennis Nationals

PLANO, Tx - Opening day at the 2011 Division III Men's Tennis National Championship featured all the nation's top singles players. The quarterfinal matches at #1 singles may have been a prelude to how this tournament will take shape. Top seed AJ Moore (Gloucester CC) defeated Nick Fallone (CC Rhode Island) 6-2, 6-2, Mercer CC's Ben Pinter defeated Eastfield's Trebor Hooker 6-1, 6-0, Brookdale CC's Tom Wolski defeated #2 seed Dan Burgess 6-1, 6-3, and Dykhyun Park (Montgomery-Rockville) defeated Jordan Sadowitz (Onondaga CC). The three Region 19 schools in the eight team field (Brookdale, Gloucester, Mercer) went on to win ten of their twelve matches on the day and again showed the strength of the region in Division III Tennis.

The match that everyone was talking about on Day 1 was the #1 singles battle between Wolski and Burgess. Wolski was a finalist in 2010 at the top singles flight but struggled a bit throughout the season and went into this tournament without a seed (which is rare for a returning All-American in the same flight). Nassau's Burgess went undefeated against NJCAA Division III competition during the regular season to earn the #2 seed. It was a tough matchup for the Nassau freshman in his first National Tournament against the seasoned Wolski. The 6'5 Wolski used a variety of shots and power to open up a 5-0 lead in the first set before Burgess got his footing in the match. The second set was on serve at 3-2 before Wolski broke Burgess and then held for a 5-2 lead. Wolski closed out the match in his next service game and set up a tough semifinal match with another freshman in Dykhyun Park.

Gloucester CC, the defending National Champions, won all three of their matches on the day including top seed AJ Moore (pictured) who won at both #1 singles and #1 doubles. The Roadrunners also got a win from #2 singles player Andrew Pfieffer.

Tuesday's matches will feature all of the seeded players at all flights and will set up the top teams for a shot at the championship. After the first day of play Brookdale CC leads with 8 points, followed by Gloucester, Mercer and Onondaga with 6 points.

The GCC Men's Tennis Team wanted to leave no doubt about who the best team was in Region 19 in 2011. Despite a 10-0 regular season record, many of the teams dual matches were very close and the Roadrunners were only the top seed in four of the nine flights in the region tournament. By the end of the weekend the team had put on the most impressive showing at the region tournament in recent memory. The team advanced to the championship round in eight of the nine tournament flights and had already clinched the team championship on the first of the two day tournament. The Roadrunners went on to win six of their eight championship round matches to end the weekend with 23 points, 10 more than second place Brookdale CC. The Roadrunners are looking to follow up a magical 2010 season that culminated with them winning the college's first tennis national championship.
