TOMS RIVER, NJ - The Ocean County College women's basketball team snapped Northampton's 10-game winning streak, and in the process took over sole possession of first place in Region XIX with a 61-55 victory on Saturday.

Ocean took control midway through the second half, leading by as many as 12, but Northampton rallied and cut the margin to 5, at 56-51, with 2:08 remaining.  The teams then traded baskets and free throws and Ocean was able to secure the pivotal region victory.

Ocean is now 16-1 in Region XIX, while Northampton drops to 17-2.  The Vikings have 5 games remaining in league play, while NCC has 3.  The two teams split their regular season series, each winning on their home court.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. - The Northampton Community College women's basketball team is ranked 7th in the latest Division III poll released by the NJCAA national office.
 
The Spartans, winners of five straight, are currently in first place in Region XIX with a 12-1 conference record and are 13-3 overall.
 
Ocean County College (10-2) is ranked 10th, while defending Region XIX champion Brookdale Community College (10-4) is receiving votes.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. - Ocean County Community College sophomore Elizabeth Lawler leads all NJCAA Division III women's basketball players in scoring and rebounding, according to the latest statistics from the national office.

Lawler is averaging 24.1 points and 17.2 rebounds per game for the nationally-ranked Vikings.

"Liz is a terrific representative of Ocean County College," remarked Director of Athletics Ilene Cohen, "she works extremely hard both in the classroom and on the court."

Lincroft, NJ - Two of the nation's top Division III women's basketball teams will face off on December 15th when 6th ranked Brookdale hosts 10th ranked Northampton in a Region XIX matchup.

Brookdale, the defending Region XIX champion, is currently 8-2 overall and 7-0 in Region XIX.

Northampton enters the contest on an 8-game winning streak, with an 8-2 overall mark and an identical 7-0 conference record.

"It should be a very competitive contest," remarked Region XIX women's director Ron Case, "I have seen both teams play and I came away very impressed with each of them."

Northampton will be looking for their first-ever victory over the Jersey Blues since joining the NJCAA in the 2009-10 season, they are currently 0-5, including a loss in last year's Region XIX championship game.
