Men's Outdoor Track & Field - Sat, May. 11, 2013

COLUMBIA, MD - Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology's Track and Field team excelled at the National Junior College Athletic Associations National Track and Field Meet held at Howard County Community College in Columbia, MD.

Joel Leicy (Bird-in-Hand, PA) took the gold in the javelin with a distance of 52.77m and Michael LoPresti (Dover, PA) took the silver also in the javelin with a distance of 52.67m. Jamel Fortson (Mt. Union, PA) also took the silver in the discus with a distance of 43.19 m. Each of these men also attained All-American status with there finishing place.

Kelsey Haldeman (Pine Grove, PA) took 6th place overall in hammer with a distance of 32.63m.

Connor Whitman (Minersville, PA) took 5th overall in the Decathalon.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) is the governing body of two-year college athletics, offering endless athletic and academic opportunities to college students. It is the second largest national intercollegiate athletic organization in the United States with over 500 member schools in 43 states. Each year over 50,000 student-athletes compete in one of 28 different sports and the organization sponsors 48 national championship events and nine football bowl games each year. Men's Outdoor Track & Field - Mon, May. 6, 2013

LOCK HAVEN, PA - The Thaddeus Stevens College Track & Field Team concluded the 2013 Invitational Competition Schedule at the Lock Haven University Qualifier.  

Travis Hughes had a personal best in the Hammer throw of 38.03m and Kyle Sipe also had a personal best in the 800m with 2:04.78fat. Both Travis and Kyle have now met NJCAAIII Qualifying Standards for these events.  Travis and Kyle complete the team of Joel Leicy, Conner Whitman, Alberto Santos, Michael LoPresti, and Kelsey Haldeman representing the College  at the NJCAA III National Championships on May 9 through May 11.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Thaddeus Stevens College Track & Field Team participated Saturday in the Gettysburg College Mason Dixon Invitational.

Teams competing included Mary Washington; Gettysburg; Frostburg State; Hagerstown CC; Dickinson; Albright; Hood; Catholic; Stevenson; McDaniel; Thaddeus Stevens; Canisius College; Frostburg State Alumni and Hagerstown Athletic Club.

Two Stevens throwers earned spots at Nationals based on their performances on Saturday. These students were:

  • Jamel Fortson who finished 5th in Discus with a distance of 39.58m.
  • Kelsey Haldeman who finished 7th in Shot Putwith a distance of 9.97m.

Other top performances for Thaddeus Stevens team members included:

  • 3rd - Javelin - 45.29m - Michael LoPresti
  • 9th - Hammer - 35.46m - Travis Hughes


Two team members also had personal best perfomances on Saturday:

  • Discus - 33.06m - Ronald Tucker
  • Liz Hornberger Mile - 6:44.86

The TSCT Track & Field team will next comete at Lock Haven University this Saturday, April 27.

Media, Pa - Thaddeus Stevens College's Michael LoPresti has been named Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office this afternoon. 

LoPresti, a freshmen thrower from Dover, Pa. finished first in the javelin and discus with a throws of 48.68m in the javelin and 37.23m in the discus at the Millersville University Metric on Saturday 4/6/13. These distances also qualfied him to compete in nationals!

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Another Thaddeus Stevens College Track and Field member qualified for Nationals today at the Annual Millersville University Metrics.  Michael LoPresti (Dover, PA) qualified in both the javelin throw with a distance of 48.68m and the discus throw with a distance of 39.60m. LoPresti now joins Connor Whitman (Minersville, PA) in Hurdles and Joel Leicy (Bird in Hand, PA) - Javelin as National qualifiers for TSCT.

The team competed at the Millersville University Metric, which included teams from 12 PSAC and DII Universities, 6 DIII Colleges, Junior College and Clubs.  

Other track and field members of note on Saturday include:

  • Joel Leicy - Javelin - 49.81m (11th overall)
  • Conner Whitman - 400 hurdles -  59.13fat (7th overall)
  • Richard Hall - 800m - 2:10.84fat and 1500m - 4:18.99fat
  • Christy Steed - 1500m - 5:12.28fat
  • Kyle Sipe - 800m - 2:09.72 

​The Track and Field team will travel to Messiah College on Saturday, April 13 for their next meet.
