SECTION A Regular Season Structure and Procedures

1. The Method of Play

The host school shall provide for all contests:

- Three nationally rated officials from a recognized basketball association to be assigned by a designated statewide assignor.

- A regulation basketball that conforms to N.C.A.A. rules.

- Provide six practice basketballs for visiting team.

- An official scorekeeper and timer.

- Provide for the visiting team water or liquid refreshments. This shall be available in the same manner as the home provides for itself. Whenever possible, it is recommended that a chalkboard be made available to the visiting team.

- Adequate security protection at all home games.

- A team arriving near or after the scheduled starting time will be given a ten-minute warm-up period.

- All GSAC teams will automatically forfeit a game if they arrive 30 minutes or more after the scheduled starting time of the game without advance notice.

A.) The chairperson of the G.S.A.C. Basketball Committee will correspond with member schools in order to select the All -Conference Teams by Division alignment.

B.) The All-GSAC team will be selected by the balloting of all GSAC coaches within their respective Divisions: Division II & Division III

C.)All member colleges may nominate up to 3 of their players for consideration on the All-Conference Team. The names, year in college, and other pertinent statistics and data must be submitted to the Basketball Committee Chairperson at a date to be announced. The Chairperson will then devise a master list to be redistributed to all member colleges according to Division alignment.

D.)The All-GSAC teams will coincide with the Region Balloting Procedures and results only including the GSAC nominees. Coaches may not vote for their own players. After tallying, the number of players selected will be determined by the following criteria:

  • 4 Teams or Less
  • 5 Player Team (*)
  • 5-8 Teams
  • 7 Player Teams (+)
  • 9 or More Teams
  • 8 Player Teams

A.) The host institution must notify the athletic administrator of a visiting team if technical fouls were assessed to one or more of their players or coaches.
B.) A college-approved administrator must be present at all home contests involving GSAC teams.
C.) Security must be in attendance at all home contests.
D.) Teams will be directed to use separate exits and entrances at the beginning and end of each game.
E.) The end of the game handshake is not mandatory.
F.) A member of the coaching staff must be outside his/her locker room at the conclusion of each game.
G.) During the warm-ups, teams are restricted to their half of the court.
H.) Technical foul accumulations-Players who receive three (3) technical fouls during the season must sit the next regularly scheduled game. Each succeeding technical foul will result in an additional game suspension.
I.) Coaches who receive five (5) technical fouls during the season must sit the next regularly scheduled game. Each succeeding technical foul will result in an additional game suspension.
J.) It is recommended that the home team videotape all home contests; warm-up, game and post-game activities.
K.) In the event that an altercation should occur on the court, only the head coach may leave the bench. Assistant coaches are responsible for keeping their teams in their appropriate bench areas. Security and the athletic administrator on duty should ensure appropriate spectator behavior.

SECTION H NJCAA / Region XIX/GSAC Ejection Policy

1. An athlete in any contest involving a Region XIX College who is ejected for violent conduct or fighting shall not be allowed to participate in the next two played contests as determined by the schedule of that institution. (Ejections are for both single and doubles matches). If this ejection occurs in the last contest of a given season, the suspension shall be in effect the first regular game of the player's next season.

Players and coaches will be ejected for the following:

•Vulgar language
•Tobacco products/smoking
•Dress code violations

2. If a player or coach is ejected, an ejection report must be filed with the Region Director

SECTION I Health and Safety

1. In regard to an open wound, under circumstances when constant or profuse bleeding occurs, the participant shall be immediately removed from that contest by the coach or official and cannot return until the bleeding has stopped.

2. The use of all tobacco products by any coach, player, official, or other individual involved in the conducting of any NJCAA sanctioned or sponsored regular season or post season play is prohibited within the confines of the playing area. Any individual not in compliance shall be disqualified from further participation in that contest.
