Wrestling Garden State Athletic Conference

Section A. Regular Season Structure and Procedures

1. The Method of Play

a. In order for an institution to be eligible for the GSAC Championship, it must wrestle all other GSAC opponents.

b. If a team cannot wrestle five (5) weight classes in a match, it must notify its' opponent at the earliest possible time and forfeit the match. If the inability to field five (5) weight classes is discovered at a weigh-in, the opponent must be notified as soon as weigh-ins are concluded. If the coaches mutually agree, they may wrestle the match with the available, eligible personnel.

c. In the event of a triangular match that involves a non-GSAC college, the GSAC colleges must wrestle first.

d. The home team sets the pairings when three (3) or more conference teams are participating.

e. A team that arrives 15 minutes prior to the contracted starting time or within 30 minutes after that time will be allowed to dress, get taped, be inspected by an official, and warm-up. The contest will begin exactly 30 minutes after arrival of the tardy team.

2. Rules

a. NCAA rules will apply to all facets of the wrestling program.

Section B. Officials

1. The host school shall make every attempt possible to secure college rated officials for all competition.

Section C. Reporting of Results of Matches

1. Results of dual matches are to be reported by the Coach to the Athletic Director and the Wrestling Chairperson within 48 hours after the completion of the match.

Section D. GSAC Conference Championship

1. A plaque will be given to the team with the best won/loss record during the regular season against member colleges.

2. Each college must play every member team in the conference.

3. In case of ties, a champion will be determined using a tie break formula developed by the membership of the GSAC.

Section E. Regular Season Awards/All-Conference Teams

1. The GSAC conference team champion will receive a championship plaque.

2. The GSAC championship shall be determined by the best won-loss record against member institutions.

3. In the event of a tie, a champion will be declared.

4. An All-Conference team will be selected annually by the GSAC coaches at the Eastern District II Tournament. Athletes must have wrestled against at least two GSAC opponents to be considered for the team.

5. The team will be selected using the following criteria based upon GSAC matches:

a. Dual meet record in weight class

b. Head to head competition.

c. Most falls.

d. Most five (5) point decisions.

e. Most four (4) point decisions.

f. Least number of forfeits won.

The following guidelines should be used by the coaches in determining the All-Conference Team:

a. A wrestler must have competed in a given weight class in at least 50 percent of the GSAC matches during the season.

b. Should a team drop its schedule prior to its first published date, no forfeits will be granted. Should a team start its published schedule and later drop its program, all teams they would have met shall receive a forfeit. In order for an individual wrestler to receive a forfeit win, he must have wrestled at the weight class in question in the match immediately preceding the forfeiture.

6. Member of the All-Conference team and their institution will receive the appropriate certificates.

Section F. Coach of the Year

1. The Coach of the team winning the GSAC championship shall be designated Coach of the Year and receive the appropriate award.

Section G. Code of Conduct

1. All members of teams including players, coaches, trainers, scorekeepers and spectators will follow the Code of Conduct enforced by the National Junior College Athletic Association throughout all matches.

2. Only college issued team uniforms and clothing should be worn. Headwear is optional but should be college issued.

Section H. NJCAA/Region XIX/GSAC Ejection Policy

1. An athlete in any contest involving a Region XIX College who is ejected for violent conduct or fighting shall not be allowed to participate in the next two played contests as determined by the schedule of that institution. If this ejection occurs in the last contest of a given season, the suspension shall be in effect the first regular contest of the players' next season.

Players and coaches will be ejected for the following:

Vulgar language

Tobacco products/smoking

Dress Code Violation

2. If a player or coach is ejected, an ejection form located on the NJCAA website must be filed with the Region Director within 24 hours.

Section I. Health and Safety

1. In regard to profuse bleeding, this situation is covered by Rule #6 of the NCAA Wrestling Rules and Interpretations.

2. The use of all tobacco products by any coach, players, official, or other individual involved in the conducting of any NJCAA sanctioned or sponsored regular season or post season play is prohibited within the confines of the playing area. Any individual not in compliance shall be disqualified from further participation in that contest.
