Middlesex College Baseball Standout Braden Ramirez Signs NLI With Division I Dayton
Edison, NJ - Middlesex College sophomore Braden Ramirez cemented his plans to continue his baseball career at the NCAA Division I level by signing his National Letter of Intent with the University of Dayton in a ceremony held at the college.
"I'm definitely excited about going to Dayton," said Ramirez. "I have worked extremely hard to get this opportunity. Right now though, I am focused on this upcoming season at Middlesex and our goal of winning Region 19."
Middlesex College baseball head Coach CJ Mooney was equally thrilled for Ramirez and credited his family with supporting him and his efforts throughout his development.
"I am extremely happy for Braden and his entire family on this commitment," said Mooney. "It's a testament to his work ethic and discipline throughout all of his years. His family deserves a lot of credit for instilling the right values in him from a young age."
Ramirez is coming off a record-breaking freshman season in which he was one of the top run-producers in the country on the NJCAA Division III Level.
The outfielder from Middlesex, NJ led the Colts with 75 hits, a total that placed him seventh in the country. He had 72 RBIs, one short of the Region XIX lead and the fourth-highest total in the nation. He batted .381 with a 1.094 OPS. Ramirez had 18 multi-RBI games last season including a season-high seven RBIs in a win over Salem CC.
Ramirez also set a school record with nine home runs, topping the previous mark of six, which was held by four different Colts.
For his efforts, Ramirez was named Second Team All-Region XIX in voting completed by the region's coaches.
Ramirez was a key member of a historical 2022 season for Middlesex College. The Colts shattered the school record for wins, going 37-20 on the season. Their 37 wins surpassed the previous mark of 31 which was set in 2002.
"This is a huge accomplishment for the entire Middlesex College baseball program," said Mooney. "It can show other prospective student-athletes that Middlesex can be a viable option for them to start their academic and athletic career."
Ramirez cited his time at Middlesex and the support he received here as keys to his success.
"I am very blessed that I had the chance to continue my athletic career at Middlesex College," said Ramirez. "This program has taught me a lot and opened up opportunities that I once dreamed of. It may not be easy to get to this point, but without my teammates, this wouldn't have been possible. We all want to see each other succeed, we have each other's backs and we push each other every single day in the field, in the weight room and in the classroom." "
In committing to the University of Dayton, Ramirez will join a Flyers team that has enjoyed success under highly regarded Head Coach Jayson King. The Flyers won 23 games in 2022 and advanced to the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship game the two seasons prior.
